COVID -19 Policy
August 2020
I am delighted to be able to offer in person lessons this term.
To this end I have carried out a risk assessment in accordance to EPTA guidelines for piano teachers (European Piano Teachers Association) and have applied new measures to enable us to get back to lessons in my studio.
If government guidelines change, or if I am required to isolate, lessons might need to revert to on-line with little notice.

In order to maintain the safety of all students and teacher please take heed of the following:

Attending lessons
Please do not come to the studio for your lesson if you or a member of your household has experienced any Covid-19 symptoms within the previous 14 days. If in any doubt please do not come to the studio but instead request an on-line lesson.

Arrival to and departure from lessons
For everyone’s safety there can only be one student in the studio at one time, therefore I would ask students to arrive and leave punctually for lessons.
At the appointed lesson time I will open the front door and let the current student leave the studio. The arriving student will wait on the couch in the car port until the student has left. If the lesson is running over students are advised to wave through the window to let me know they are there!
Students are requested not to press the doorbell or to use the door handle. I will be the only person to touch the door handle thereby reducing possibility or contamination.
I will use a no-contact thermometer at the front door before entry to the studio.
Students must wear a mask or visor only on entry and departure to their lesson.
On arrival inside the studio the student has the choice of using my own hand sanitizer or their own sanitizer. This must be done in my view so that I can assure all parents that all students are using hand sanitizer.

Studio layout
During the lesson we will maintain at least 1.5 meter social distance from eachother.
Perspex sheeting will be between myself and the student, this is an added precaution that reduces the need for masks.
I have invested in a Roland Stage Digital Piano for use alongside my Grand Piano so that student and teacher are not playing on the same keys and to ensure that social distance is maintained.
As far as possible I will leave windows open during lessons and/or between lessons.

During the lesson
Students must try to bring their own materials – books, sheets, notebooks, pencil, rubber to lessons.
Students are obliged to wear a mask or visor upon arrival and departure from their lesson. Students are welcome to wear them during the lesson but are not required during their lesson as the room will be divided by Perspex screens.
If the student feels they are about to cough or sneeze they are asked to put on their mask to reduce aerosol spread.
The toilet facility will only be available in case of emergency so students are asked to go before they leave school or home for their lesson.
At the beginning of each lesson keys will be wiped down to ensure they are sanitized for the next student.

Reminder
If a student arrives at the studio and appears unwell they will not be able to have their lesson. If you feel that the student will be unable to attend their lesson due to illness or contact with an ill person I will hold the lesson on-line at their usual time.
