For children there is magic in touching a key and hearing the beautiful sound the piano can make – and then to realise that they are making that sound.

Taking the step to enrol your child in piano lessons could be the first step towards a life-long love of music. Or perhaps a first step towards enabling your child to entertain their friends with ‘Let it Go (Frozen)’ or whatever the latest music craze is.

Whatever your motivation, there are so many reasons for learning the piano – from appreciating the beauty of music, hearing the sound of music in your house, the pleasure of playing for self or friends, to the sense of personal achievement and growing self-esteem.

Piano fosters creativity and self-expression: playing the piano gives children a space to express themselves with emotion. It provides an outlet. The expression, ‘Give a child a book and they’ll never be bored’ can be applied equally to the piano. A piano is a wonderful hobby, and a great skill to have at all stages of life. It can also be a very calming activity for children and adolescents.

Piano contributes towards hand-eye coordination and helps to improve concentration. Learning piano requires concentration and mastering an on-going learning process – one that is hugely rewarding (both for the player and, hopefully, those listening in!).

Learning to play an instrument is incremental. It will take time and practice to develop musical skills. Children experience a great sense of achievement and satisfaction in their own successes. This sense of achievement is hugely important in the development of happy, independent children.

So many reasons to learn this beautiful instrument.
